Since my first part design, I have always been extremely fascinated by CNC machines. It was always an idea in the back of my head that I wanted a CNC milling machine of my own, but there was no way I could afford a Haas or Mazak.

 

Throughout my time on the uAlberta Formula Racing Team and various co-op jobs, I gained hands-on experience operating Tormachs, CNC routers and Haas machines, along with knowledge of the mechanical, electrical and software technicalities of these machines. The following pictures outline nearly a years worth of planning, research and design, along with a progress build of my homemade CNC milling machine.
