Jireh Industries, Ardrossan, AB                                                                                                   May 2020 –May 2021

Product Design Engineer Co-op

Among a variety of design tasks, I was responsible for a mechanical design project from start to finish developing a consumer robot for use in radiographic non-destructive testing applications that entailed:

• Testing and brainstorming to evaluate pitfalls and necessities of currently offered devices available on the market.

• Iterative prototyping and lab testing using FDM and CNC machined components.

• Successful design of injection molded chain link system to be used for a variety of pipeline applications. Final design resulted in a cost and complexity reduction of 10-fold while optimizing ergonomics and ease of use for consumers.
• Finalizing a production ready design for a robot capable of carrying a 60lb payload and x-ray detector panel circumferentially around various pipeline diameters while continuously scanning girth welds for corrosion and porosity.
• In addition, I independently deferred my co-op sequence at the University of Alberta to extend my work term at Jireh Industries to fully complete the design and fabrication of this robot, now being marketed at North American trade shows.

John Deere Reman, Nisku, AB                                                                                       April 2019 –December 2020

Manufacturing Engineer Co-op

Experiences strengthened my mechanical propensity, innovative design thinking, and interpersonal skills within a shop environment through:
• Improving assembly line product flow, quality and production through the implementation of 5S, Kaizen and Six Sigma principles for John Deere transmissions.
• Designing and implementing tooling, fixtures and work layouts by studying material flow and operations sequence in favour of advancing safety, ergonomics, and production on the shop floor.
• Creating and routing sequence of events documents for newly adopted finished goods through the professional development program.
• Value stream mapping using data analysis of current and future production line states.
• Iterative design and mass production of battery-powered motorized units put into practice on revolving work stands as a means of increasing productivity and decreasing overall employee fatigue.
